CONCEPT

T9 Hakodate is an adaptive reuse project transforming a Taisho-era landmark into a modern cultural hotel.

The project celebrates the dialogue between heritage architecture and contemporary design while reflecting the unique cultural landscape of Hakodate.

Connecting history and culture, people and people, community and future, it will grow as a vibrant hub—nurturing new encounters and meaningful experiences.

The time you spend here itself becomes a new chapter in the history of this building, to be carried forward into the next era.

*T9 stands for Taisho 9, referring to the 9th year of the Taisho Emperor’s reign, which corresponds to 1920 — the year the building was constructed.

LOCATION

T9 [T-Nine] is located in the heart of the historic western district of Hakodate, a historic port city, where traces of history and mixture of Western and
Japanese culture remain vividly alive. Within walking distance, you’ll find charming streets with an international atmosphere and many of the city’s most popular sightseeing spots.
Whether as a base for exploring, strolling, dining, or enjoying the night view,
it’s a location where you can fully experience the unique appeal of Hakodate.

T9 [T-Nine] is revitalized and produced by the team behind the award-winning historic restoration project aremo koremo, recipient of the 2024 Good Design Award.

Alongside experienced local members from Hakodate, professionals active across Japan and overseas collaborate on the project. By combining a perspective rooted in the community with diverse ideas and specialized expertise from outside the region, we carefully shape both the space and the services we offer.

By carrying this historic architecture into the future, T9 aspires to be a place that gently connects Hakodate with the world.

– A Stay Experience of Heritage and Reinterpretation –

Set within a Taisho-era building where the history of Hakodate remains deeply preserved, this is an exclusive accommodation with only five guest rooms.
The property features an on-site craft beer brewery and coworking space, offering more than just a place to stay—it provides an opportunity to experience the time, culture, and spirit of the region itself.
In addition, the adoption of a contactless, unmanned operation ensures a smooth stay with a high level of privacy.
